The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Gregory Yurek, CEO of American Superconductor, in which he talks at length about the company's future. Yurek gives an overview of the company: "The biggest challenge, we realized, was how to convert these inherently brittle ceramic materials into usable wires. We came up with a way to meet this challenge that has been steadily refined and improved for more than a decade. Today we are manufacturing these wires at our pilot manufacturing facility at a rate of 500 kilometers a year. In fact, just last week we broke ground to put up the world's first commercial HTS wire manufacturing plant here in central Massachusetts, so we are poised to expand rapidly over the next two years."
