ASM International currently offers 10 ceramic technology courses online and four courses in the classroom, and the heritage of these courses goes back 35 years to the founding of the Ceramic Correspondence Institute (CCI) in 1972. CCI was founded to offer practical training in ceramic technology to production personnel, technicians, managers and others in the ceramic industry.
After 35 years and over 3000 students in 40+ countries, the successor courses to the original program are offered online by ASM International. The instructor for these courses, and for the classroom versions, is Carl Frahme, Ph.D., one of the original co-founders of CCI. The program, although expanded and updated, has an unbroken history of three and a half decades.
The ceramic courses offered online are Fundamentals of Ceramic Technology, Ceramic Processing, Statistical Process Control for Ceramics and Glass, Glass Technology, Refractory Technology, Materials Science for Industry, Electronic Ceramics, Glaze Technology and Art, Ceramic Laboratory Procedures, and Physical Properties of Ceramic Materials.
Four classroom courses in ceramic technology have been and will be offered by ASM at its headquarters in Materials Park, Ohio: Fundamentals of Ceramic Technology, Electronic Ceramics, Refractory Technology and Industrial Ceramic Processing.
