ASTM Committee C28 on Advanced Ceramics is currently seeking participation in a new subcommittee, C28.04, on Applications. According to subcommittee chair Dave Carruthers, C28.04 was established in 2003 to focus on identifying new or existing advanced ceramic applications for which new consensus performance test standards are needed for commercial success. "The subcommittee is striving to obtain input from the community on needs and priorities, and on the availability of stakeholders to participate in standards development," said Carruthers. The subcommittee has identified several areas in which new testing standards might be beneficial, including nano-ceramics, coatings, electronics, porous applications, fuel cells, armor, sensors and actuators, and thermal systems.
