BIA Reports On Brick Production For First Quarter Of 2004

Brick production was up 12% in March 2004 over March 2003, and shipments increased 21% for that same time period, according to the Brick Industry Association (BIA). The first quarter year-to-date production was 6.6% above that of 2003, and the first quarter 2004 shipments increased 13% over those of 2003. Shipments by destination increased 16.5% in 2004 over those of 2003. The Northeast showed the largest increase in shipments, with 34% greater shipments into the New England and Mid Atlantic states over the previous year. The South showed an 18% increase in shipments by destination, with the Midwest pulling in 10% more shipments than in 2003. The West showed a 3% increase over shipments into that area in 2003.
