UK-based mold maker BRK is making progress after going through a very difficult trading period due to the strong pound. The company exports 60% of its output to countries throughout the world and was especially successful at its machinery division in the first half year, producing excellent results with orders coming in from new customers in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Southern Africa and the former Soviet Republics. The division develops and builds equipment for a wide range of operations to serve the world's glass container industry. The range includes machines for thread milling, lateral plunger honing, automatic polishing, NC drilling, cavity volume measurement and repair welding. On the mold-making front, new business includes an order for an unusually large handled flagon with a 1.75 liter capacity. The company supplied the original mould sets in 1982 as part of a technology transfer package involving Russia's largest vodka producer and a major American soft drinks company.
