Cabot Supermetals, a business unit of Cabot Corp., has opened a new facility in Columbus, Ohio, for the development of high-performance materials for thin film applications. The new site will be used to develop tantalum materials for use in semiconductor, optics, magnetics and flat panel display markets. Additional development activities will include the refinement of tantalum thin film materials for barrier applications in copper-based interconnect structures for use in the semiconductor industry. The new operation will be led by Michael Morris, business manager.
