Centorr Vacuum Industries, Inc. recently shipped a laboratory furnace to the NASA Langley Research Center facility. The furnace was designed for ultra-high-vacuum operation (10-8 torr range) for induction melting of special alloy materials. The system has provisions for the "in-house" addition of standard accessories for future expansion of the laboratory. These accessories include interchangeable resistance heated hot zones, both graphite and refractory metal, designed to operate at specific temperatures for the requirements of NASA. The system may be used for a multitude of metallurgical applications, including heat treating, brazing, annealing, tempering and quenching. The high-vacuum furnace features all stainless steel construction with all metal seals throughout.
