Centorr Vacuum Industries: Ultra-High-Temp Furnaces (posted 10/22/09)

Centorr Vacuum Industries (CVI) recently announced it has received an order for its high-temperature (2900°C) graphite heat-treat furnace for a company involved in advanced materials. The new furnace line includes sizes from under 1 to over 20 cu ft for processing carbon, graphite, and other advanced materials and composites.

These new furnaces build on the success of CVI’s experience in non-oxide ceramic sintering, chemical vapor infiltration, and chemical vapor deposition furnaces with modifications made specifically for higher-temperature graphite processing. The design includes robust graphite resistance-heated elements or induction-heated hot zones for use to 2900°C. The insulation package uses a combination of graphite felt and rigid graphite board for long-term service, even in the presence of process off-gassing or residual binder contamination.

Furnace control is achieved via PLC/programmable controllers or Centorr’s in-house, custom-designed HMI visualization interface using award-winning Intellution® software. This event-based control offers extensive data acquisition functionality for supporting SPC and continuous improvement programs, as well as remote system operation.
