MoreCeradyne, Inc. recently announced that it has received one $25.1 million order and a second $14.1 million order for small arms protective inserts (SAPI) lightweight ceramic body armor from the U.S. Army RDECOM, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. The company expects to begin shipments in the late fourth quarter of 2008, with completion prior to May 1, 2009. The orders are a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) requirement.
“We are very pleased to receive these FMS body armor orders,” said David Reed, president of North American Operations. “We believe that the government placed these orders with Ceradyne, at least in part, due to its reliable delivery and quality performance on previous SAPI procurements. These are new orders from the U.S. Army and should not be confused with the anticipated XSAPI/ESAPI five-year procurement, which has not been awarded as of this date.”
