At the China Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair this week, an announcement was made about a new ceramic studio that will open in spring 2011. École Nationale Supérieure D'Arts (ENSA), an academic institution in Limoges, France, will manage the international studio, but it will be located in Jingdezhen (in east China's Jiangxi province). Eric Martin, a visiting French official, shared the news on "Limoges Day" at the Fair.
Both Jingdezhen and Limoges are well known for the production of high-quality porcelain and enamels. With the opening of the new studio, European and Chinese ceramic artists will have the opportunity to work side-by-side in a contemporary space. "Jingdezhen represents the top level of world porcelain art. Limoges will never forget what its ceramic industry has learned from Jingdezhen. And now, the new studio will link them in the future," said Martin.
