DAM Acquires 80% of Minalca

Denain Anzin Mineraux (DAM) recently acquired 80% of Alcantara (Minalca), a producer of high-quality potassic feldspar with low iron and titanium content for the tile, glaze and glass markets. The company's plant, as well as a deposit of several million tons of reserve, are located in Acehuche (Caceres), Spain. Near the Portuguese border, the company is ideally located to serve the markets of the center of Spain and Portugal, as well as the extra white applications of the principal European markets. DAM, a subsidiary of the Nord-Est diversified industrial group, is one of the first European feldspar producers with sales of 730,000 tons in 2002, from units located in France, Germany and Italy.
