"Particle Calculations for Ceramists," a new book by Dennis R. Dinger, contains explanations, examples and sample calculations for all of the routine calculations performed by ceramists (including engineers, technicians, artists and students), as well as material engineers and others that work with powdered materials. The book discusses the importance of surface area and how it can be accurately measured; the differences between true, apparent, bulk and tap volume; how to determine the porosity and density of a powder; the fundamentals of particle size distributions; how to improve the packing capability of a particle size distribution; and other helpful topics. It is designed for use as a daily reference by anyone in the field of particle processing and control.
