MoreEdmund F. Ball, retired chairman, president and chief executive
officer of Ball Corp., recently passed away at age 95. He was the son
of Edmund B. Ball, one of five brothers who founded Ball Corp. in
1880. He retired in 1970 after a 42-year career with the company.
Mr. Ball started in the ranks of Ball Corp. in 1928 with various
manufacturing assignments before becoming glass factories manager in
1936. He was named vice president of glass operations in 1940. In
1945, he became executive vice president and a member of the board of
directors, and was elected president in 1948. In 1956, Mr. Ball was
named president and chairman of the board. From 1963 through 1967, he
served as chairman of the board, and in 1967, he became chairman and
president once more. He retired in June 1970 and remained chairman of
the board's executive committee until 1986. He continued to serve
thereafter as chairman emeritus of the executive committee.
