Electro Abrasives' Ramming Passes Away After Brief Illness

Allan D. Ramming, president and chief executive officer of Electro Abrasives Corp., died recently after a brief illness. Ramming was hired at Carborundum in 1969 as a supervisor in sales administration for the company's Graphite Products Division. He then worked in research and development in the Refractories & Electronics Division until 1972. He was product manager for Ferro Corp.'s Abrasives Division from 1972 to 1987, when he and a group of investors and employees purchased the division. Ramming became president and chief executive officer of the firm, which was renamed Electro Abrasives Corp. He was responsible for developing new product lines, such as boron carbide and green silicon carbide, and he instituted new processes to expand, refine and increase silicon carbide production.

"He was a well respected innovator and leader in the industry," said Kristine Ramming, who was named general manager of Electro Abrasives six months ago. "He listened to the customers and made sure we produced a high-quality abrasive product to meet their needs. My father ran an honest company with high quality products, and I was proud to have been able to work with him."
