Engis Corp.: Lapping and Polishing Machines (posted 2/19/09)

Engis Corp. recently announced the launch of its new Hyprez FastLap FL series of versatile, economical tabletop and floor-standing lapping and polishing machines. The new range has been specifically designed to increase efficiencies when processing a wide range of industrial and advanced materials, such as steels, ceramics, carbides, sapphire and silicon carbide, to provide users with lower per-piece finishing costs.

FastLap FL machines are available with six different lapping plate diameters, from the 15-in. tabletop unit to the 24-, 28-, 36-, 42-, and 48-in. floor-standing machines. All units are equipped with digital controls that provide a range of pressure and speed settings from 0-1200 lbs and up to 90 rpm, respectively. The floor-standing machines offer additional ease of use through a touch-panel interface and PLC-based control system.

Standard features include a “soft start” ramp-up to protect parts during start-up, as well as a corrosion-resistant, easy-to-clean work area with chrome pressure plates and an optional splash/protective enclosure system that provides increased contamination control and operator safety. With a fully adjustable work table, variable speed drive, pendant-style operator control panel, independent tapered bearing support for the drive wheel, and three-roller yoke ring arms with single lever adjustment for both inboard and outboard positioning, FastLap FL machines provide operators with optimal process control, stability and load handling.

Additional machine options include a plate water cooling system, an integrated slurry dispensing system, an abrasive slurry reservoir for use in non-diamond applications, and a lap plate flatness gauge to provide enhanced process control. Where required, Engis can also provide fully customized solutions to suit customers’ specific requirements.
