A new high capacity fiber optic polishing system has been introduced to the European market by Engis (U.K.) Ltd. At the heart of the new system is a polishing machine -- Model #HFO-200PC -- that brings increased production rates and flexibility to the finishing of the new generation of optical fiber connectors. The HFO-200PC can process up to 32 individual optical fiber connectors simultaneously, using platens up to 8 in. (20 cm) in diameter, powered by two independently variable speed drives. The machine generates variable polishing action in orbital, planetary and figure 8 patterns. An easy-to-use computerized process control, accessed through a touch screen display, enables the operator to control plate speed and direction, cycle times and polishing action. An angular control system adjusts component orientation to the polishing plane.
