ENrG Inc. and Refractory Specialties Inc. (RSI) are working jointly to produce SinterLyte™ ceramic setters for ceramic firing processes. The high-purity refractory setters are used to support the firing of ceramic components at temperatures reaching 1500°C. ENrG’s advanced coating technology, combined with RSI’s virtually silica-free, low-density alumina fiberboard products, bring to market durable structures at cost-effective price points.
The setters, offered with high-purity alumina or zirconia coatings, are lightweight and non-shedding. With low thermal mass, the setters can be used for multiple firings and quicker cycle runs. SinterLyte is currently available in sizes up to 355 x 355 mm (14 x 14 in.) and as thin as 6.35 mm (0.25 in.). To accommodate future scaling of fuel cells, larger sizes and additional coatings will be offered in 2010.
The joint development between ENrG and RSI is funded through the Ohio Department of Development’s (ODOD) Third Frontier Program, along with ENrG and RSI. The ODOD program supports technology research and advancements of commercially viable products. Over the course of the program, the coating technology will be transferred to RSI for production in its Sebring, Ohio, facility.
