Solutia Inc. announced that just before midnight on October 12, the production unit for manufacturing resins for printing inks at the company's Vianova plant in Wiesbaden, Germany, was damaged by an explosion and fire. Six employees and several firefighters were treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation and one employee for minor injuries. No environmental damage was caused and, apart from temporary road closures during the night, the local community was not affected. Although it is too early to evaluate the full extent of the damage and its impact on shipments of product, customers who may be affected by any interruption in production at this site are being contacted. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of this accident.
