GEO2 Certified in Phase One of VFT-1 (posted 1/7/08)

GEO2 Technologies Inc. recently announced that its patented diesel particulate filters (DPFs) have passed Phase One of the VERT-Filter-Test (VFT-1). VFT-1 certification is well-regarded as the industry standard for measuring the efficiency and performance of DPFs in commercial retrofit emission systems. In order to pass Phase One, a filter must meet stringent criteria for quality control, functionality, filtration efficiency and gaseous emissions monitoring.

“VERT certification is emerging as the global standard to evaluate the effectiveness of advanced diesel filters to reduce harmful emissions,” said Rob Lachenauer, president and chief executive officer of GEO2 Technologies. “By passing Phase One, GEO2 filters have demonstrated superior efficacy under rigorous testing conditions. The VERT tests measured the GEO2 filter capturing 99.95% of dangerous diesel soot. As we’ve found, traditional filters currently on the market are big, heavy and expensive, which limits the pace of clean diesel adoption. GEO2 has created the first filtering media for retrofit diesel emissions control applications that meets both diesel emissions and operator’s fuel efficiency needs quickly, cost-efficiently and in a commercially viable way.”

Based on a patented cross-linked microstructure, GEO2’s filters are reportedly the only high-temperature media to enable multiple functions within a single filter so that automakers can offer clean diesel models without sacrificing engine performance or profits. This microstructure achieves the previously unattainable combination of high porosity, high filtration efficiency, high temperature resistance and low backpressure. The filter, which breaks traditional compromises in strength and porosity, enables flexibility in system design and thereby reduces a system’s cost, weight and size. In addition, clean diesel not only eliminates harmful pollutants from exhaust, but also achieves 25 to 30% better fuel economy than gasoline.
