Hitco Wins Defense, Aerospace Contracts

Hitco Carbon Composites, Inc., a subsidiary of SGL Carbon Group, recently announced the award of three new contracts worth a total of $26 million in sales. Hitco will provide the Atlas V nose fairing, which will ultimately be part of the Lockheed Martin Atlas 5 launch vehicle, to Aerojet of Sacramento, Calif. Between one to five solid rocket motors (SRM) per launch vehicle require these large nose fairings, which provide protection and air stream flow for the forward end of each SRM. Hitco will also continue its 50-year association with the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. as a supplier by producing the F-22 inlet lip assembly for the Ft. Worth, Texas, facility's F-22 super-fighter aircraft. Hitco will also provide multi-layered thermal and acoustic insulation panels for use in aircraft cabin comfort systems for corporate and commercial aircraft to Flight Environments of Paso Robles, Calif. Developed jointly by teams from both companies, these panels provide an innovative acoustic solution toward dampening aircraft cabin noise.
