INSIDE CI: Potential Coffee Catastrophe

The monthly roundup from Editor-in-Chief Susan Sutton.

I had a run-in with my coffee pot this morning, which I considered rather apropos as we’re in the process of putting the finishing touches on this year’s Equipment Digest issue. Like the machinery and equipment used in ceramic, glass and related plants around the world, my coffee pot is vital to my success every day. Without a fully functioning coffee pot and the product it produces (i.e., caffeine in delicious, hot liquid form), my productivity would decline significantly, perhaps even grind to a full stop.

Luckily, the coffee pot required just a simple adjustment, and I was able to get back to work fairly quickly. The equipment highlighted in the hundreds of definitions and suppliers* listed in our annual Equipment Digest likewise enables manufacturers to be consistently and efficiently productive every day. Be sure to check it out online at www.ceramicindustry.com/equipmentdigest.

This issue also includes articles detailing cost reduction opportunities for QC/QA inspections (see “Using IET to Reduce Production Costs") and microwave processing (see “The Role of Microwaves in Binder Removal"). In addition, the Brick & Clay Record features a look at the history of one of the ceramic and brick industries’ most enduring suppliers (see “175 Years and Counting").
