Kennametal to Exhibit High-Temp Alloy Cutters at IMTS

New high-temperature alloy milling cutters that boost productivity 100 to 500% on high-temperature alloys by machining at cutting speeds of 3000 surface feet per minute (sfm) and higher will highlight the Kennametal exhibit at booth E-2105 of the IMTS 2002 Manufacturing Conference, which will take place September 4-11 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. The key to the performance of the new milling cutters is a new ceramic grade, Kyon 2100, that is specially engineered for rough milling of nickel, cobalt, and iron-based heat resistant alloys and cuts at speeds 10 to 25 times faster than carbide grades. The new cutters and inserts machine Waspalloy, Haynes 25, Inconel 718, Stellite and similar materials at cutting speeds of 2000 to 4500 sfm and feed rates of 0.002 in. per tooth (ipt) to 0.005 ipt, providing metal removal rates of eight to 15 times faster than cutters using carbide inserts.
