This January, Kodansha International will publish "Classic Stoneware of Japan: Shino and Oribe" by Ryoji Kuroda and Takeshi Murayama ($35 hardcover). The book is the first comprehensive, kiln-by-kiln survey on two of Japan's most important styles of pottery. Shino and Oribe were both born during the Momoyama period (1573-1615), and both are still being made today. The new book brings together early great pieces with important newer work, and includes over 150 color photographs and informative text covering the history and techniques of these two styles.
