Issued by President Barack Obama last fall, Executive Order 13514 sets sustainability goals for federal agencies and focuses on making improvements in their environmental, energy and economic performance. “As the largest consumer of energy in the U.S. economy, the federal government can and should lead by example when it comes to creating innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, conserve water, reduce waste, and use environmentally responsible products and technologies,” said President Obama.
Kohler’s role in the summit was to educate attendees on how their agencies and businesses can meet the EO13514 requirement for 2% annual reductions in water consumption, with a total reduction of 26% by 2020. Kohler’s understanding of the products and services that are available and the practices that have proven successful, as well as how to navigate and interpret the executive order, is important for helping participants meet the aggressive goals.
“Kohler has successfully proven methods to reduce indoor water consumption in major facilities through use of water-efficient plumbing products-such as toilets, showerheads, faucets and urinals,” said Robert Zimmerman, senior staff engineer for water conservation initiatives at Kohler.
