Viaton Industries is using the Malvern Mastersizer 2000 particle size analyzer to control the production of advanced ceramics.

Viaton Industries, one of Europe's largest contract processors in the field of particle reduction, is using the Malvern Mastersizer 2000 particle size analyzer to control the production of advanced ceramics such as barium titanate and magnesium zirconate materials for its Thermograde Process Technology customer. The Mastersizer's ability to accurately and reliably measure materials across a wide dynamic range has proven especially important in processing these products. Thermograde's barium titanate products are used as heavy metal scavengers in fuel cracking catalysts in order to preserve the activity of the main zeolite catalyst. The scavenging ability is directly related to particle size, with fine particles having a higher surface area and consequently a higher reactivity rate. Milling is therefore carried out within strict specifications to ensure that over 99% of the material is below 10 microns in size.
