ESL Electro-Science recently announced the availability of a new product -- porous alumina cover plates. A cover plate is a porous ceramic plate used to cover green ceramic parts during firing. Porous alumina plates find use in applications such as the manufacture of SOFCs and other fuel cell electrolyte substrates, MEAs, interconnects, and other fuel cell assemblies. The cover plate acts as a permeable flattening weight, reducing camber, warping or bowing during the initial firing of the part, while retaining gas permeability during organic removal. Use of a cover plate allows for the replacement of a sintering or subsequent flat firing with a single-step firing process, thus reducing energy and other costs.

TEVTECH INSTALLS TWO SIC SINTERING SYSTEMS
TevTech, LLC recently announced the delivery and installation of two horizontal silicon carbide (SiC) sintering systems -- one with a 6-cubic-foot hot zone and the other with a 100-cubic-foot hot zone. The sintering systems incorporate a binder management system consisting of a retort, a thermal oxidizer and a binder catch system. The system enables the efficient handling of process byproducts for both positive and partial pressure operation, and it greatly reduces cycle and preventative maintenance. The uniform 2150ºC operating temperature is achieved via single or dual zone heaters. Each system has been fitted with an optional accelerated cooling system to shorten overall cycle time and increase throughput. The systems are controlled via PLC with data acquisition and safety interlocks.
NEW BREAKER AVAILABLE FROM WAHL INSTRUMENTS
Wahl Instruments, Inc. recently announced its new Wahl Breaker WB140, which is designed to warn of possible component failure or overheat of circuit breakers, motors and electrical equipment due to overheat conditions. The Wahl Breaker provides a visual indication of when a breaker, etc. requires attention, and it continuously monitors 24/7 with no interruption due to power failure or battery exhaustion. The Wahl Breaker is an easy to install, self adhesive, temperature recording label with a silver gray indicator that turns permanently and irreversible black in less than one second with +/- 1% accuracy, traceable to NIST.
