NanoDiamond Products Ltd. (NDP) recently announced that it has moved into its modern high-technology facility, which features the latest manufacturing and characterization equipment. The company has also launched its premium range of nanodiamond products.
Based in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland, NDP is a privately owned independent company with Enterprise Ireland, an Irish government department, as a key stakeholder. The directors of the company, who have combined experience in the diamond industry of over 100 years, have gathered a team of engineers, chemists and scientists to provide standard and tailor-made solutions.
The company has been set up to provide complete solutions to emerging markets for nanotechnology based on synthetic polycrystalline nanodiamond and natural and synthetic monocrystalline nanodiamond. The company is initially targeting three market sectors where the potential for the use of nanodiamond is already emerging. The first is as a suspension for chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) applications where increased productivity and high surface finished on components are required. The second target market is as an additive in electroplating processes to create wear surfaces, and the last is for emerging medical applications such as drug delivery.
Nanodiamond is already starting to be used in commercial consumer products, such as toothpaste, but the ability to exploit the true potential has been limited. “We see this as a tremendous opportunity to build a new business in an emerging market,” said Derek Wright, CEO of NDP.
