As predicted during the Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorated Products’ (SGCDpro) Legislative session at Deco 2010, bills have been introduced in the U.S. House and Senate that mimic the far-reaching, costly and burdensome REACH legislation enacted in Europe. Both bills (Safe Chemical Act of 2010 in the Senate and Toxic Chemicals Safety Act in the House) place the burden on industry to prove the safety of chemicals before they can be sold or marketed in the U.S.

Currently, chemicals are called into question only when there is a suspicion of hazard to the public. SGCDpro will follow the progression of these bills through Congress. Visit www.sgcd.org for more information.
