Corning Inc. has appointed David A. Nolet engineering associate-display technologies. The position recognizes significant, measurable and outstanding contributions to the company, involving exemplary technical depth, breadth and leadership. Nolet joined Corning in 1980. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in geochemistry, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Superior Graphite Co. has promoted Andreas Jentsch to vice president of sales and marketing for its European division. In his new position, Jentsch is responsible for the company’s metallurgical and industrial product line in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. In addition, Eric Salmon has joined the company as an area sales manager. Salmon is responsible for sales and technical support of Superior’s metallurgical products, including Desulco® and Ark® electrodes. His coverage area encompasses Austria, the Benelux countries, France, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
David Johnson has been appointed executive vice president—marketing and development of C-E Minerals. He previously served the company as vice president, marketing.
PPG Auto Glass has made several personnel appointments: Mark J. Orcutt, president; Oswald S. (Wiz) Wyatt and Glen Hartman, senior vice presidents, Northern and Central regions, respectively; Marc E. Talbert and H. Lee St. John, vice presidents, Western and Southern regions, respectively; John A. Bruno, chief financial officer; Jeffrey W. Smith, director of distribution; James J. Ricci, director of marketing and business analysis; and David F. Nelson, director of materials management and purchasing.
Dielectric Laboratories, Inc. (DLI), a subsidiary of Dover Technologies, has appointed Brian DuPell executive vice president and general manager. Formerly senior vice president and general manager of TAM Ceramics, DuPell possesses a strong background in international business and manufacturing. In addition, Walt Dollman has been named director of sales and marketing. Dollman comes to DLI with over 15 years of experience as business unit manager for CeramTec North America.
Robert J. Davis has joined Refinity™, formerly Eastern Smelting & Refining Corp., as president. In making the announcement, Board Chairman Jeff Plank said, “Rob’s background in the chemical process and environmental fields and his 20-year track record of marketing and management success made him the ideal choice to lead the company.”
Malvern Instruments has recruited two new people to strengthen its U.K. sales team. Stuart Macauley covers the north of England and Scotland, replacing Jim Scotland, who is now the company’s process sales specialist for Europe. In addition, Michel Terray has been appointed product specialist for the company’s acoustic spectroscopy systems.
Dr. Sam Langridge has been appointed sales director of Servomex Group Ltd., with global responsibility for sales operations. He returns to Servomex after nine years of developing sales and business development initiatives for other companies. He plans to consolidate the company’s position as a world leader in gas analysis by revitalizing distribution in key geographic areas and increasing international awareness of the latest gas analysis technologies.
J. Earl Burrell, who retired from PPG Industries in 1984 as president and chief operating officer, died recently at his home in Naples, Fla. Burrell joined PPG’s chemicals research department in 1941 after earning a chemical engineering degree from the University of Michigan. He became general manager of chemical operations in 1958 and was elected vice president of chemical operations in 1961. He was elected chemicals vice president and general manager in 1966, corporate executive vice president of operations in 1975, and president and chief operating officer in 1976.
