Oglebay Norton Co.’s Industrial Sands group, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Texas Mining LP, has acquired the operating assets of Jebco Abrasives, Inc. Included in the acquired assets are the right to a silica deposit and access to a supply of coal slag. The new operation, known as the Columbus, Texas, facility of Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands, augments the abrasives segment of the Central region operations, which are headed by Larry Henderson.

“This acquisition gives us another supply point for silica sands in the Gulf Coast market as well as entry into the coal slag abrasives markets,” said Henderson. “Both are important elements in our overall strategy to increase our supply of abrasives, primarily used for abrasives blasting and a variety of other industrial applications.”
