Oglebay Norton Co. recently announced that it has entered into an agreement in principal to acquire Erie Sand & Gravel Co. The company expects the acquisition, which is subject to due diligence and bank approvals, to be completed within the first half of 2002. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Michael D. Lundin, Oglebay Norton's president and chief operating officer said, "This niche acquisition will fit well into our Great Lakes Minerals segment. It also complements our long-term strategy of providing fully integrated distribution of our products from quarry to customers on the Great Lakes."
