Oneida Opens New Distribution Facility (posted 7/9/07)

Oneida Ltd. recently announced that its new distribution center in Bryan County, Ga., near the Port of Savannah, is fully operational and handling all of the company’s shipping requirements for the eastern half of the U.S. Construction of the facility was completed on schedule in January, and Oneida began initial operations at the center in April. The 500,000-square-foot leased facility employs 150 people, including 19 individuals who chose to relocate from upstate New York.

“The Savannah facility completes our U.S. Supply Chain Strategy, providing vastly improved transit times, and therefore increasing speed to market,” said Jim Joseph, president. “It is a visible sign of the company’s transformation. This is an exciting day for Oneida and the result of many months of planning and hard work by our logistics team and officials at the Port of Savannah. We are grateful for the assistance they’ve provided.”

In addition to the Savannah facility, Oneida has operated a West Coast distribution center in Lebec, Calif., since December 2005. The opening of the Savannah facility, coupled with the West Coast location, completes Oneida’s operational reconfiguration of its North American logistics and distribution platform, the objective of which is to reduce costs, further improve service and simplify product flows.

The Savannah center’s proximity to a major port is expected to produce a significant reduction in freight costs and transit times. Oneida chose Savannah after an extensive review of Oneida’s operations in order to streamline the company’s business functions and increase operating efficiency. Oneida maintains its administrative and operational functions in Oneida, N.Y., where it was founded more than a century ago.
