The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) International Conference and Education Symposium is scheduled for September 14-17 at the Roosevelt Hotel, New Orleans, La. Each year, between 800 and 1000 design practitioners, business leaders, educators and students from all over the world meet at IDSA’s annual conference. The event combines thought-provoking presentations with practical information and solutions, as well as time for networking and socializing.

Event Highlights

Highlights of the conference include a keynote address from Clay Shirky, a noteworthy voice on all things Internet, including social networks and media, economics and culture, connected communities, and the open source movement.

Eric E. Anderson, an independent consultant and a licensed professional geophysicist, will present “Designing Disaster-Resilient Communities.” Anderson specializes in preparedness planning and the development of risk management strategies to facilitate regional resilience through disaster risk reduction.

Jim Budd, chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Industrial Design, will present “Can Industrial Design Education Turn the Corner?”

The IDSA’s charitable arm, the Design Foundation, supports the dissemination of undergraduate scholarships annually to further industrial design education. The IDSA has more than 3000 members in 27 chapters in the U.S. and worldwide.
