Pechiney recently announced that it will double capacity for superground aluminum oxides at its Gardanne, France, facility. Following the development of a range of low soda reactive alumina for refractories applications, Pechiney has expanded its production capacity to follow the demands of this market. Reactive aluminas are used for the production of high alumina monolithic refractories, which are gaining market share over conventional bricks and shaped refractories due to superior cost/performance ratio. The new facility, which will come on stream in January 2002, will also be used for the production of fine ceramics grade aluminas in response to the demands of the electronics industry.
