On March 31, 2004, Permascand AB sold its silicon (SiC) and silicon nitride (Si3N4) fine ground ceramic manufacturing operation to Vesta Ceramics, LLC.

On March 31, 2004, Permascand AB sold its silicon (SiC) and silicon nitride (Si3N4) fine ground ceramic manufacturing operation in Ljungaverk, Sweden, to Vesta Ceramics, LLC, based in San Diego, Calif. Permascand AB acquired the engineering ceramics operation from KemaNord about 14 years ago and has grown the business to produce high-quality SiC and Si3N4 powders under the brand names SicoMill(TM) and SicoNide(TM). These products are used as raw materials for producing high-performance, wear-resistant ceramic components for diesel engines and other highly demanding applications. The business, which will be called Vesta Ceramics AB, will remain in Sweden and will be headed by Robert Pompe, Ph.D. The existing manufacturing team from Permascand will stay with the new company, and new members have also been added to the team to further expand the business.
