On October 15, the 32nd Annual Auction at the Pilchuck Glass School raised more than $1.2 million for the school’s educational programs. Glass collectors and aficionados bid on hundreds of donated pieces, many of which came from renowned artists such as Chuck Vannatta, Hiroshi Yamano and Dale Chihuly. Because of the economic downturn and the fact that Pilchuck's budget is largely derived from the annual auction, executive director Jim Baker says he "couldn't be happier with the results" this year.
Founded by Dale Chihuly, Anne Gould Hauberg and John Hauberg in 1971, the Pilchuck Glass School is a comprehensive educational center for the advancement of the glass arts. Students come from all over the world to attend a variety of programs and classes. The school also offers summer residencies to artists who work in any media.
