Corning Inc. recently celebrated the opening of its active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) glass substrates production facility in Tainan Science-Based Industrial Park, Taiwan. The ceremony marked the opening of the first AMLCD glass substrate plant in Taiwan. Corning is a world-leading supplier of AMLCD glass substrates for notebook computers, desktop monitors and consumer electronics products. By 2004, the global AMLCD glass industry is projected to grow to US$2 billion (NTD 65 billion). Taiwan is expected to be a key contributor to the rapidly expanding global market for AMLCD panels, estimated to grow 35% this year. With approximately 15% of the current global supply of AMLCD panels coming out of Taiwan, industry analysts project that number to grow to 25% by 2004.
