Formerly known as The Solution Source, Vision 2001 will comprise over 75 separate seminars, roundtables and other sessions. The conference, which attracted a record number 5655 participants during Coverings 2000, has a more visitor-friendly schedule this year. General conference sessions will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in two time slots, 8-8:50 and 9-9:50 a.m., before the exposition floor opens, so that visitors can attend conferences without missing any of the action on the exhibit floor.
In addition, on Sunday, May 20, the day before the show opens its doors, the conference will present a series of educational tracks offering special seminars targeted to specific industry segments. Entitled “Super Sunday In-Depth Master Sessions,” the seminars will take place simultaneously between 2-5 p.m.
The general conference, considered by many industry professionals as a tool to gain valuable insights and practical knowledge on trends, design, new technologies, business strategies and marketing techniques, is geared to industry segments on their respective “Appreciation Days.” Monday is Distributors & Retailers Appreciation Day; Tuesday is Designers & Specifiers Appreciation Day; and Wednesday is Builders, Contractors and Fabricators Appreciation Day.
Noted industry expert Jonathan Trivers will conduct a presentation entitled “MarketWise,” designed to change the way people think about the flooring industry. Moderated by Sandy Montero, Publisher of Floor Covering Weekly, this presentation will outline a view of the industry from a retail perspective with an analysis of profit structures by product category.
“Good Showroom Management and Selling” is expected to be one of the most popular conferences of Vision 2001. Conducted by Janet Carter, president of Carter Lynn in Kohler, Wis., this two-part presentation will look at the steps needed to plan a showroom, as well as staffing, attracting qualified buyers and keeping traffic flow. Attendees will also take part in a roundtable discussion, where they will learn to work out publicity, merchandising and business planning for their showroom.
Other highlights of the general conference sessions include “Uncovering Hidden Profits,” conducted by Tom Shay, president of Profits+Plus Seminars of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and “Small Shop Layout—Big Shop Output” by Joe Ranzoni, president of Ranzoni Inc. in Bucksport, Maine.
