A new technology for machining tungsten carbide rods has been
introduced by Glebar, Inc. According to the company, its new
centerless grinding system provides greater accuracy, eliminates
breakage and is 4-5 times faster than the conventional lathe method.
The system reportedly permits manufacturers to grind tungsten carbide
rods in their green state to an accuracy of one-thousandth of an
inch. This is made possible, according to the company, because the
system can plunge an entire 8-in. tungsten rod against the grinding
wheel in a single motion.
