Paragon recently introduced its new portable 120-volt FireFly kiln. The 8 in. square by 4 1/2 in. high interior is rated to 2350ºF, so the kiln will fire glass, silver clay, porcelain and stoneware. “We wanted to offer a small kiln priced for beginners,” said John S. Hohenshelt, president. “The kiln is switch-operated. It comes with a digital pyrometer, which will help in determining the cooling rate of difficult glazes or in knowing when to begin monitoring glass.” The Paragon FireFly is made of 2 1/2-in.-thick insulating firebrick, including a firebrick top and bottom, and dropped, recessed grooves protect the replaceable heating elements. The 45-lb kiln ships by UPS.
