PGW Announces Hawkesbury Plant Closure (posted 5/12/09)

May 12, 2009

Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) recently announced that it will close its Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada, glass fabrication facility in the first quarter of 2010. The company previously announced the closure of two fabrication facilities and two satellite assembly facilities. With the continued decline of North American automotive vehicle builds in 2009 and beyond, along with the unprecedented and radical restructuring of the automotive industry, the company continues to respond to the changes in the markets it serves.

“We regret that the decision to close our Hawkesbury fabrication facility adversely affects the lives of many of our trusted associates and their families,” said Jim Wiggins, president and chief executive officer. “We are responding to fundamental change in the global automotive OEM business that requires suppliers to adjust production and capacity downward to match the significant demand reductions coming from our customers. We are convinced that the steps we are taking are necessary to insure the long-term viability of our business and to prepare the company for the challenges immediately ahead.”
