PowdermatriX, the Faraday Partnership for Powder Processing, has launched its second call for research proposals in particulate engineering, with a budget of 400,000 pounds. Proposals are invited under the EPSRC funding program for collaborative postgraduate and/or postdoctoral research in the field of particulate engineering, involving advanced ceramics, powder metallurgy, hard metals, magnetic materials or other powders. The call has two priorities. The first, Making Better Products, addresses the manufacture of higher value products, achieving greater product consistency, and the development of alternative materials. The second, Making Products Better, includes synthesis, handling and forming with submicron particle sizes and nanopowders; faster/agile/flexible net shape manufacturing; reduction in lead times; increased manufacturing sustainability; and designing equipment to handle extended use.
The deadline for proposals is 5 p.m., June 19, 2003. Complete details are available at http://www.powdermatrix.org .
