Pred: Ceramic Paper Products

October 22, 2004
Pred Materials International, Inc. recently announced the availability of ceramic papers made from zirconia and alumina for use in making superconducting wires, firing glass and powdered metals, and for carburizing carbide tools. The alumina paper (TAP) consists of aluminum oxide fiber and pulp as a binder, while the alumina-carbon paper (TAPC) consists of alumina, carbon fiber and pulp as a binder. These ceramic papers are light and durable at high temperatures. TAP is used as a separator on ceramic trays for firing crystallized glass and powered metals, and TAPC is used for carburizing powdered metals and carbide tools. Zirconia and zirconia-alumina ceramics paper (ZAF) is made of highly purified zirconia (ZrO2) powder and alumina (Al2O3) fiber and binder. ZAF, which is a custom-made product, is used as a separator in making high-temperature superconductor (HTS) wire.
