Rath Acquires Westerwald

The Rath Group, parent company of Rath Performance Fibers, Inc., has acquired Westerwald Industriekeramik GmbH, Germany. The acquisition was a joint decision by Rath GmbH of Meissen, Germany, and the Oberland Glas AG in Bad Wurzach.

Rath will assume production of Westerwald’s line of Alporit lightweight insulation bricks (for temperatures up to 1500°F), as well as its line of acid resistant bricks. Production of the Alporit insulation bricks line will be moved to Rath’s newly expanded production facility in Bennewitz, Germany, while acid brick production will remain in the Westerwald area to ensure consistent raw material supplies.
