SEMX Corp.'s materials group recently completed a facility expansion
for its ceramic packaging operation, which was acquired in April 2000
by Polese Co. in San Diego, Calif. The addition of high temperature,
multilayer, co-fired ceramic packaging technology to Polese's thermal
management materials capability offers customers complete vertical
integration of raw materials through volume manufacturing for
thermally enhanced fiber optic, microwave and high-speed digital
packages. To support the anticipated growth in demand, the entire
Polese infrastructure was rearranged and/or relocated into an
advanced manufacturing campus, covering approximately 100,000 square
feet. The new materials group headquarters is home to the ceramics
division, which includes a modern clean room and support facilities.
Additional capital equipment will be added during the fourth quarter
of this year, including two multiple high volume production furnaces,
providing additional capacity to support increased demand from
existing customers, as well as new opportunities under consideration.
