July 11, 2007

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) recently released “Walking the Talk: Pathways to Leadership,” a book that provides aspiring and experienced managers with the basics needed to successfully traverse the corporate minefields of today’s fast-paced organizations. Author Michael J. Termini, president and chief executive officer of The Consulting Alliance Group, Inc., uses case studies from real-world companies to illustrate how to apply the close-looped leadership principles discussed in the book.

“‘Walking the Talk’ offers the reader numerous examples and practical advice on how to successfully tackle the numerous tactical and strategic tasks that managers face,” said John McGrath, corporate vice president, quality, Edwards Lifesciences LLC. “Whether you are already a manager or are beginning the transition, this book will help you increase your probability of success.”

Armed with the foreknowledge of what to expect and how to deal with it, students, technical professionals, and even experienced managers will learn how to avoid many of the traps that can sidetrack a management career. The book explores topics such as making the career choice and career transition, employment and labor laws, management skill-building, managing disciplinary problems, employee selection, motivation and empowerment, building organizational alignment, turning a vision for change into action, and more.
