Starfire Receives $150K NYSERDA Contract for Ceramic Brakes
April 15, 2003
Starfire Systems, Inc. recently announced a $150,000 contract from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to demonstrate brakes using advanced ceramic matrix composite materials. Under the contract, the company will work with one of its partners in the automotive industry to build advanced ceramic brakes and retrofit the braking system of a modern, full-sized pickup truck. The project will demonstrate the benefits of the superior performance of advanced ceramic brakes versus costs, which will allow auto manufacturers and component suppliers to determine if the value gain at the consumer level justifies the investment in new, more advanced technologies.
