Suttle Named Senior VP of Communications for BAE (posted 12/16/09)

He most recently served as vice president of Communications for BAE Systems’ Land & Armaments operating group.

BAE Systems has appointed John Suttle senior vice president of Corporate Communications for BAE Systems, Inc. He will lead communications for the entire organization, which includes nearly 50,000 employees across more than 130 sites around the world.

“John brings a strong track record of success leading innovative defense and military communications programs,” said Linda Hudson, president and CEO. “He has a keen understanding of our internal and external stakeholders and will effectively engage with them to support our company’s business, customers’ requirements and community involvement.”

Suttle’s experience in communications leadership positions spans more than 20 years. He joined BAE Systems in May 2007, and most recently served as vice president of Communications for BAE Systems’ Land & Armaments operating group. Prior to BAE Systems, Suttle held the position of senior director, Communications for General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products after retiring from the Army as a lieutenant colonel. During his military service, Suttle was editor-in-chief of the Army’s flagship publication Soldiers Magazine, served as military assistant for public affairs to the Secretary of the Army, and was deputy director of Army Public Affairs Marketing.

Suttle has been recognized by his peers through a variety of industry achievements, including five Silver Anvils from the Public Relations Society of America and the U.S. Department of Defense’s Thomas Jefferson Award. He is a graduate of the Army’s Training with Industry Fellowship Program and the Command and General Staff College. His civilian education includes a bachelor’s of science degree in mass communications/public relations from Lamar University and a master’s of arts in journalism/public relations from Marshall University.
