UNION PROCESS: Metal-Free Attritor

October 28, 2011

This company recently announced it has built a large SD-250 for an application in the lithium battery industry. The dry grinding SD-250 attritor features a 400 HP TEFC inverter duty motor with a heavy-duty variable-frequency drive controller.

“This is one of the largest and most powerful metal-free attritors we have ever built,” said Emery Li, sales manager. “A steel frame riser was also provided to support and elevate the attritor so that the multiple bottom product discharge valves will be easily accessible for material handling purposes. Noise insulation for the grinding tank was also provided to reduce the dB levels during processing. The high-tech needs of the lithium battery industry require highly engineered equipment. As such, we are proud that Union Process attritors are playing a vital role in the burgeoning green technology market.”

The SD-250 has a gross tank volume of approximately 288 gal, a material capacity of ~125 gal and a media volume of 187 gal. Batch attritors are designed to allow material to be charged into the mill at the top, ground for a predetermined time, then discharged through the bottom.
