On April 16, Rath Inc. marked its 20th anniversary. Founded in 1990 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Rath AG of Vienna, Austria, Rath Inc. began as a two-person office in Wilmington, Del. The company began by selling the parent company’s ALTRA® standard rigid ceramic fiber products and mastics, as well as Denka’s Alcen® bulk and blanket ceramic fiber insulation. Ralph Grizzel served as general manager, steering the company through a maze of difficult market conditions.

Today, the Rath line includes dense refractories; custom-insulated parts and assemblies; furnace linings and re-linings; engineered insulation systems; and fiber-based insulation, including a complete line of insulating firebrick, dense high alumina and specialty brick, castables, coatings, adhesives, and mastics. The company has more than 40 employees and Grizzel now holds the position of vice president and general manager of Sales and Marketing.
